The Many Adventures of Room #201

In a dorm full of young girls who are new to "adulting" and being on their own there can be plenty of things that are unfamiliar and a plethora of opportunities for new adventures. The stories of room #201 are not for worried parents ears. So if you are a parent of a daughter in college and are reading this look away now.

It was a Thursday night around 9 pm and my roommates and I were all sitting around the T.V. in the living room, where you can usually find us on any given night. We were watching Say Yes to the Dress on TLC, because that's what girls like to watch and we like to imagine that we are the ones getting married and shopping for a wedding dress.  A commercial came on for Buffalo Wild Wings where boneless wings are 65 cents each on Thursday nights. So of course all eight of us got up threw on some deodorant and went to get some wings. It was an hour wait because obviously all college students want discounted wings. Once we were sat we started to calculate how many wings we could get for the least amount of money, because we are all poor college students. Our waiter was a good looking sweet college guy who I'm sure didn't mind waiting on a table of single girls.

He was quite the flirt but most of us were just there for the food as always. Between the eight of us we ordered 80 wings. Some of us tried to be adventurous and get some super spicy ones. After we were done with our wings and our cute waiter brought us our checks we paid, no don't worry we didn't dine and dash even though we are that poor to consider it, but we did think it would be funny to write all of our numbers on the receipts and leave them for our waiter. We hurried and left before he came back to clean up the table, unfortunately he never texted anyone or so we think, maybe he texted one of us and the certain lucky girl decided to keep it all to herself...

The story still isn't over, It is now 11:30 pm and we decided to go for a drive Hannah is driving and pulls up to one of the many stop signs in Logan on the way home. It was late and there wasn't too many people on the road so she just rolled on through it...and yes the lights turn on and we hear the sirens....we knew it we were all going to the slammer and we would be there forever because there was no way we were calling our parents to bail us out. Turns out the cop was very nice and just told us to be more aware while on the road and let us go home with a warning. We parked and were walking up the stairs and as we were opening up the door to our dorm one of our friends jumps out of the bushes and scares us and I was so scared that I dropped my extra wings I was saving for later...the worst ending to a Thursday night...until I woke up at 6 am for my morning classes.

So here are some needed tips for surviving college adventures;
  • Tip #1 On Thursday's always go to Wing Night until your money runs out.
  • Tip #2 When at wing night don't act like college freshman girls and leave your number for the waiter, it's a rookie mistake.
  • Tip #3 Always come to a complete stop at stop signs.

How to live with Seven Girls

We all came to Utah State University as strangers, hoping we could get a long and occasionally hold a conversation, maybe even try and be friends. When we arrived at the LLC in Building E Room #201 the worst possible scenario happened...We all became best friends. Best friends who spend nights up late talking, watching movies, and laughing uncontrollably. My advice, if you can, become roommates with girls you don't like.

Living with seven other girls isn't the most glamorous living situation. There is hair everywhere, in the sink and shower, it's on the floor, in the couch cushions...sorry it's gross but it's true. We run out of toilet paper extremely fast.  There is always dishes in the sink no matter how many times you do the dishes you come back and there are more. Living with seven other girls that you enjoy being around can get out of hand, we are told to be quiet at least once a night. Our laughing echos through the halls of the dorm and apparently through the floor to the room below us. The constant talk of boys and waiting up for roommates to come home from dates to get all the good details calls for some late weeknights.
You wouldn't think girls ate as much as growing teenage boys you're right we don't...we eat more than them. We eat constantly throughout the day and if we are bored on a Thursday night we will go hit up Buffalo Wild Wings even though we just ate at the marketplace an hour before, or one of our favorites is to make a late night Walmart run and come home with a haul of mud masks and endless piles of junk food. We get cookie dough, chips, ice cream, candy and popcorn.
These things wouldn't be problems in a dorm full of acquaintances, sure there may be some hair and a few dishes but mostly the girls would stay to themselves and make sure they cleaned up their things. When you live with seven of your newest best friends you become comfortable very quickly and you don't feel the need to clean up, thinking this won't bother anyone we are all friends. Wrong it bothers everyone.

So here's some tips to not only living with seven other girls which is hard enough but to living with seven other girls that have become some of your best friends.

  • Tip #1  When the sink is full of dishes, wash them. They may not be yours but at some point your roommates have done your dishes too, and this will create a better environment and less conflict or awkward tension at the next movie night.
  • Tip #2  Be able to distinguish between weeknights and weekend nights. Even when your roommates are up late talking about juicy stuff, go to bed. You will thank yourself in the morning when you get up for you 7:30 am class. And then when its the weekend stay up all night if you want to and get caught up on all the latest gossip.
  • Tip #3  Limit yourself to 3 maybe 4 meals a day. I mean don't make yourself miserable but also don't eat a small meal every hour and snack on food til 11 pm the freshman 15 will find you quickly.
